Tehran, IRNA – A senior member of the Iranian parliament says that media reports claiming that Iran has been involved in uranium enrichment up to 84% of purity are meant to influence an upcoming meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Abolfazl Amouei, who serves as the spokesman of Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, made the comments on Monday in reaction to a recent report by the Bloomberg suggesting that Iran had started uranium enrichment to weapons-grade levels.

Amoui said that Iran is currently settled on a 60% uranium enrichment program under IAEA’s full supervision, adding that the country will inform the UN nuclear agency about any decision to go beyond that level.

“The publication of such stories by the American media is more aimed at making hue and cry about the Islamic Republic of Iran ahead of the IAEA Board of Governors meeting in March,” said the Iranian lawmaker.
