Tehran, IRNA – A sum of 237 Iranian Members of Parliament issued a statement condemning the sacrilege of the Holy Quran.

The statement, which was read out by one of the lawmakers at an open session of Parliament on Wednesday, said that this "unforgivable act" is an organized fight by the hegemonic powers.

Under the false pretexts of providing support for freedom of expression, the Western leaders allow extremist and radical elements to move in the path of spreading hatred against the religious sanctities and institutionalize anti-Islamism and Islamophobia in their societies, the statement said.

The Iranian parliamentarians called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to take the necessary measures to counter the organized insults against Islamic sanctities.
