Tehran, IRNA - Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani condemns the Australian government's attempts to impose sanctions on some individuals and entities of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In reaction to the Australian unilateral sanctions imposed on some individuals and entities of Iran, Kanaani slammed the Australian government's measure and stated that Australia's attempt is an example of interference in Iran's internal affairs and incitement plus the promotion of violence and hatred.

Australia's new anti-Iran move was taken while the government of that country has been systematically violating the basic rights of Australian aborigines, prisoners, and asylum seekers for many years and the country has turned into a safe haven for elements of anti-Iranian terrorist and separatist groups, he added.

Noting that over the past decade, international organizations have published numerous documented reports on human rights abuses in Australia, Kanaani noted that recently, Australia has violated its human rights obligations by preventing the international committee preventing torture from visiting detention centers in the country so that its inhumane treatment of asylum seekers remains hidden.

Recalling Australia's international commitments in combating terrorism, spreading hatred, and respecting human rights, Kanaani termed Australia's human rights record as "dark" which needs to be paid attention to by international bodies.
