Lavrov spoke about "the harmfulness of the information campaign that has been launched by Western media" during a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian, Reuters reported the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying.
The Russian diplomat said that the actions by those media outlets could result in a dangerous escalation of tension in the Persian Gulf.
His comments follow a report by the US-based Wall Street Journal saying that Riyadh has shared intelligence with Washington about what it has described as an imminent attack from Iran on targets in Saudi Arabia.
The US on Tuesday expressed concern about those alleged threats and said it would not hesitate to help the kingdom.
The US and its Western allies are also escalating tensions with Iran over its alleged supply of drones to Russia for use in the Ukraine war.
Iran and Russia have strongly rejected those allegations.
Tehran says it is ready to hold talks with Kiev to resolve the issue and send a team of experts to Ukraine to assess the allegation.
Iran also says that it has exchanged weapons with Russia in the past, but not during the Ukraine war.
