The top diplomat made the comment in a meeting with Iraq’s National Security Advisor Qassim al-Araji who is on a visit to Tehran at the head of a high-ranking security delegation.
Amirabdollahian referred to the growing ties between Tehran and Baghdad, calling them strategic.
He said that Iran considers the security of Iraq as its own, and does not expect the Iraqi Kurdistan region to serve as a place for terror activities against Iran and pose a threat to its security.
The Iranian foreign minister said that the two neighbors should enhance cooperation on security issues, including dealing with armed terrorists originating from the northern Iraqi region.
He called on the central government in Baghdad, as well as the regional government in Kurdistan to shoulder responsibility for dealing with terror and apartheid groups in that region.
Amirabdollahian reiterated Iran’s position in supporting development, freedom and independence of Iraq, but said that the Islamic Republic of Iran will not tolerate the continued armed presence of terrorists in Kurdistan and their moves against Iran’s security.
The Iraqi national security advisor said that the constitution of his country does not allow people and movements, which work against the security of the country’s neighbors, to go ahead with their activities.
Al-Araji also said that Iraq considers Iran’s security as its own, adding that the central government and the Kurdistan regional government will take measures in the face of any action against Iran’s security.
