Leader to receive Holy Defense veterans, commanders

Tehran, IRNA – A group of the Holy Defense veterans and commanders will meet with the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in Imam Khomeini Hussainia, said the head of the Foundation for the Preservation and Publication of Sacred Defense Works and Values.

Brigadier-General Bahman Kargar announced this at a press conference in Tehran on Sunday.

Kargar added that the meeting will be held on September 21, 2022.

He said that one of the most important programs of this week is honoring one million veterans of the Holy Defense.

The Holy Defense Week is annually celebrated nationwide to commemorate the martyrs and veterans of the Iraqi imposed war on Iran in 1980-88.

The war claimed the lives of 230,000 Iranian soldiers and left nearly 600,000 WIAs. At the same time, about 43,000 Iranians were prisoners of war (PoWs) in Iraq and many others were missing in action (MIAs).
