Speaking in an interview on Saturday, Amirabdollahian said that the trip followed his recent trip to Turkey and was imperative to have consultations also with Syrian officials.
Developments are taking place in the region that requires the Islamic Republic of Iran to constantly play a constructive role and prevent a fresh crisis in the region, the foreign minister added.
He said that his visit to Syria was partly aimed at moving toward establishing peace and security between Syria and Turkey as both countries have significant ties with Iran.
Bilateral talks on various regional and international issues in meeting with Syrian officials, including President Bashar al-Assad, were also on the agenda of the coming trip, according to Amirabdollahian.
