Baghdad, IRNA – The lawyer of the Iranian embassy in Baghdad Amjad Mohammad Hossein al-Mousavi survived an assassination attempt on Wednesday.

Abbas Ahmidi, the Iranian consul in Iraq’s capital Baghdad, confirmed that, saying the assassination attempt against the lawyer was carried out by armed men in the city of Al-Kaẓimiyyah at noon.

He escaped unhurt, but damage was caused to his personal vehicle, Ahmidi added.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, which comes as Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein is on a visit to Tehran.

Observers believe that the attack was an attempt to put pressure on the Iraqi government and create problems in ties between the two countries.
