Mohsen Pakaeen told IRNA on Sunday that the Islamic Republic of Iran is against provocative moves by the NATO, noting that Tehran monitors developments in Ukraine.
Ruling out allegations that claim the Islamic Republic’s stance towards the development was passive, Pakaeen stressed that Iran is constantly monitoring the situation.
He argued that President Ebrahim Raisi’s phone call with his Russian counterpart President Vladimir Putin proves the Iranian administration’s active policy in this respect.
However, the Islamic Republic’s authorities are worried about the fate of Iranian nationals residing in Ukraine, so Tehran has made all-out efforts to pave the way for the expatriates’ return to Iran, Pakaeen noted.
Iran opposes any provocative measure, which triggers insecurity in the world, he said, adding that the Islamic Republic does not accept eastward expansion of NATO towards Russia, but Ukrainian president made miscalculation because he relied upon the United States and exposed his country to war.
The organization is notorious as a result of its 20 years of crimes throughout the world, the ex-envoy mentioned, noting that the world opinion will never forget NATO’s crimes and massacres in Afghanistan, torture and prisoner abuse in the Parwan Detention Facility, known as Bagram, as well as increase of drug production in the war-torn country, so the organization has brought about nothing but agony for nations.
According to the official, the Islamic Republic as a pro-peace and antiwar country adopts an independent stance and does not tend to any warring side because Tehran opines that conflict bears no fruit except losses and destructions.
The most rational way to end the war is that the Ukrainian Government announces they do not seek accession to NATO, Pakaeen said, expressing hope that negotiations can help end conflict and enhance security throughout Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s acknowledgement that NATO and other Western allies left his country alone in the face of Russia was a predictable matter, because all analysts warned that the US and Europe would not enter any military operation against Russia, the former ambassador concluded.
