Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasized continuation of humanitarian aid and formation of an all-inclusive government in Afghanistan.

Amirabdollahian and Guterres met the sidelines of Munich Security Conference (MSC) on Saturday and discussed issues of mutual interest, including the situation in Yemen, Afghanistan, and the latest developments in the talks in Vienna.

The Iranian foreign minister expressed sorrow over the continuation of immigration waves from Afghanistan into Iran and the country’s being at the risk of expansion of terrorism, increasing displacement, and drug trafficking which impacts the security and stability of the region and the world.

He emphasized the necessity of strengthening UN aids and the services of UNHCR to Afghanistan’s neighbor countries, especially Iran.

Amirabdollahian urged maximized efforts to settle the crisis in Yemen through political solutions and prevent human tragedy, highlighting the secretary-general’s role in this regard.

On the talks in Vienna to remove sanctions against Iran, he said that there were considerable progress in the talks, but the other party should make serious political decisions and show practical determination in ensuring Iran’s interests and rights.

The UN chief, too, stated that the government in Afghanistan should be all-inclusive.

Guterres expressed deep gratitude towards Iran for its approach regarding Afghan refugees and noted that the UN has emphasized the necessity of strengthening global support and aid to Iran in the issues of Afghan refugees.

He also emphasized the necessity of helping Afghanistan’s economy and preventing the country from collapsing economically which will have consequences for the region and the world.

The UN chief also confirmed Iran’s concerns regarding the war in Yemen and said that the world didn’t deserve the continuation of the human tragedy in Yemen and that all parties should help realization of a political solution in the country.

He also said that everybody was waiting for a deal in Vienna agreed upon by all parties to be implemented as soon as possible.
