Moscow, IRNA - Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's upcoming visit to Moscow will revitalize Iran-Russia relationship and cooperation, a Russian academic believes.

Andrei Sidorov, acting dean of Moscow State University’s Faculty of Global Studies (MGO), told IRNA in an exclusive interview on Sunday given the fact that Iranian and Russian authorities are going to ink documents and memorandum of understandings (MoUs) during President Raisi's trip to Russia, the two countries' bilateral collaborations in different areas will be amplified.

The visit will be held in a situation that Russia and Iran enjoy magnificent ties, Sidorov said, noting that heads of both states are hopeful that they will be able to improve bilateral relations in various arenas.

Focusing on economic, industrial coop

The Russian academic went on to say that bilateral economic, trade and exchanges in fields such as high-tech and aerospace industry is less than the proper level, while the two countries possess high capacities to develop more cooperation.

Previous programs to expand economic ties between Iran and Russia have not been implemented appropriately; so, it is expected that presidents of both countries would hold talks in this respect, Sidorov noted.

The trade volume between Russia and Iran is similar to Russia's trade exchanges with small countries, while the Islamic Republic enjoys broader capabilities, which can help amplify the economic cooperation if programmed precisely.

Hopes for lifting anti-Iran sanctions

According to the Russian professor, the sanctions imposed by the United States and its allies, particularly in economic area, are illegal and cruel, because they target livelihood of the Iranian nation mostly from low-income walks of life.

The sanctions have not been confirmed by the UN Security Council; therefore, they are in violation of international regulations, the dean of Moscow State University’s Faculty of Global Studies argued.

The United States is a permanent member of the UNSC; so, it is expected to defend international standards, but the US has been turned into number one violator of international laws and the UN Charter, Sidorov mentioned, noting that the US affects international relations negatively.
