Recent remarks made by signatories to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Vienna talks indicate that the negotiating teams from Iran, the European Union and the P4+1 group (Britain, France, China, Russia plus Germany) are trying to minimize the difference and pave the way for reaching consensus; although, the West resorts to raising unfounded deadlines to portray a dim picture of the talks and the Zionist lobbies put pressure on the European trio (Britain, France and Germany) to derail the negotiations. However, the Islamic Republic insists on its legitimate rights, calling for the removal of nuclear-related sanctions.
Given the fact that there are still outstanding issues on the revival of the JCPOA and removal of the sanctions, there is a long way ahead to reach a final agreement.
The Western powers in particular the United States should reach the conclusion that the source of the problem and current situation on the nuclear deal is Washington's unilateral withdrawal from the agreement in May 2018 and re-imposition of sanctions on Iran. Therefore, the US should take responsibility and lift sanctions in order to pave the ground for a return to the JCPOA.
It is obvious that a good negotiation, which can lead to an agreement, requires flexibility by the West and their restraint from reiterating propaganda campaigns against Iran. The Western states involved in the Vienna talks resort to different tactics in dealing with the Islamic Republic.
France has emerged as representative of the Zionist regime in recent rounds of the Vienna talks; so, Paris has turned into the bad cop, who warned about deadlock and the end of negotiations due to lack of progress. But French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said on Friday that the talks have been progressing in recent days and the trend is relatively positive; so, a final agreement seems to be possible.
However, the Zionist regime reacted to France's stance. The Zionist regime's Foreign Minister Yair Lapid held a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron, calling for Paris' pressure on Tehran.
Some Western analysts described the Zionists' attempts as already failed efforts. Jake Wallis Simons, Editor of the Jewish Chronicle, wrote that Israel's efforts are doomed to failure and that the Israelis are lobbying with Europe because the US does not buy their account. Iran's stance in the Vienna talks has been enhanced recently; so, the Western diplomats have lost ground in the negotiations.
Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said on Sunday that the Iranian diplomatic apparatus tries to enhance economic diplomacy first and foremost; then, it comes to diplomacy in negotiations.
The Iranian negotiating team has submitted clear-cut suggestions, the FM said, adding that Western diplomats in Vienna are expected to show good faith in order to help reach consensus.
The administration of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has shown good faith and proposed initiatives to pave the ground for reaching a good agreement in Vienna; so, the ball is in the court of those who did not abide by their commitments under the JCPOA to take responsibility and stop setting deadlines, because Tehran will not succumb to pressures.
