Tehran, IRNA – Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said it was the US which left the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Acton (JCPOA) not Iran.

In a twitter message on Tuesday, he reacted to the remarks by the US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, saying "claims Iran has left JCPOA. Is he unaware that it was US that left?

Path for US return is clear: admission of culpability, end to its 'max failure' campaign & guarantee that int'l law won't be mocked again

JCPOA fundamentally dictates these basic expectations."

Sullivan had on Sunday claimed that the US is ready to participate in the JCPOA talks but Tehran is declining to do so.

He told the CNN that "the United States is ready to return to talks on Iran nuclear deal or the JCPOA, but Tehran has not yet shown the willingness to do so."

He claimed the US "is working closely with its partners and allies to prepare the necessary conditions for the talks", stressing that "the United States is ready to return to the negotiating table and continue working on the issue".

The American offcial's remarks came at a time when Iran is still under the "maximum pressure campaign" which was initiated by the former US President Donald Trump and is pursued by his successor Joe Biden.

Earlier, the Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian had, in a phone conversation with his German counterpart Heiko Maas, reiterated that the language of power and threat would not work in negotiations, adding that any inaccurate and unreal remark could endanger the ongoing efforts.

Referring to the upcoming Vienna talks, he said the US is the main cause of the current situation of Iran nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
