The Portuguese sport club Porto came to fame in Iran after its football team hired Iranian forward Mehdi Taremi who shined in the matches.
However, the club has once again been the subject of hype in Iran as it signed a contract with former female Iranian national volleyball player Samira Imani to have her in the staff of Porto women volleyball club.
Imani has gained 8 championships in Iranian volleyball superleague and has played in national volleyball team for 12 years as well as acting as a coach in many teams.
In interview with IRNA on Tuesday, Imani touched on her background in the volleyball world, saying that she was cut from sports for a while because she had to take care of her newborn child, but then she returned to the professional world as a coach.
She said that her dream was to be a coach in European volleyball and she has achieved the dream by being hired in Porto women volleyball team. She was going to use her experience in Europe to elevated Iran’s women volleyball, she added.
Porto women volleyball team has a brilliant background and has now broken the record by winning all six games in the have had in the current season.
She noted that she was now representing Iran’s women volleyball in Europe, expressing hope that she could put on display Iranian women’s capacity in European leagues.
Imani highlighted the issue of Islamic Hijab in Iranian sports filed, saying that he was going to demonstrate that Hijab wasn’t a restriction.
Iranian women could have the best performance in the international arena and in the Olympic games, while keeping their Hijab.
Imani’s husband works in Zob Ahan Esfahan football club and Imani says that she was informed by him that Mehdi Taremi was playing in Porto football club.
I’m proud that I’m going to be teammate with Mehdi Taremi, she said.
