General Baqeri, who is on a visit to Moscow, told Russia 24 that the leaders of both countries agree on the strategic document.
In a recent visit to Moscow, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said that the strategic deal between Iran and Russia will be ready soon.
During his interview, Baqeri said that part of the document is about military and security cooperation between Iran and Russia which will include, training military staff, fighting against terrorism in Central Asia, and holding joint military exercises.
Hailing cooperation between the two countries in different areas, the general said that resolving the Syria crisis was a good example of cooperation between Iran and Russia.
Noting that Iran and Russia will have a joint commission meeting in Tehran three months later, Baqeri noted that Iran-Russia defense cooperation is expected to grow.
He also referred to Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei’s support for enhancement of military cooperation with Russia and said that the two countries are strategic allies and they only have competition in the field of oil and gas as they are both rich in these areas.
Baqeri said that even in case of an unlikely agreement between Iran and the US, Iran will never break away from Russia.
