In line with Iran's cooperation and sending humanitarian aid to the neighboring countries in natural disasters, especially Pakistan, the Iranian Red Crescent Society in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, held the relief operation in Harnai area, which was the epicenter of the recent earthquake.
The head of the Iranian Culture Center Seyed Hossein Taghizadeh Vaqefi told IRNA that during the relief operation which lasted for five days, more than 8600 people, including children and women, were treated and provided with various medicines, food and other basic necessities, including blankets and tents.
"Unfortunately, last week's quake killed about 35 people and injured at least 350," he said.
The head of the Iranian Culture Center said some of the patients and injured of the Hernai earthquake were transported by Iran’s Red Crescent ambulances to Quetta, which is 210 km away from the earthquake affected areas.
I consider it necessary to express my utmost appreciation and gratitude for the efforts of the director and staff of Jam Shafa Hospital and the forces of the Red Crescent of the Islamic Republic of Iran based in Quetta," he added.
Earlier, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran expressed his condolences to the officials and people of Pakistan and announced country's readiness to provide relief assistance to the people of this country.
Following the earthquake in Pakistan, the Red Crescent Society of Iran also announced its readiness to send relief items to this neighboring country.
An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale shook various parts of Pakistan's Balochistan province on the morning of Thursday, October 6th.
