Tehran, IRNA – Iran expects the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to give positive report on Iran’ measures to the Agency’s Board of Governors as the country has always had goodwill, a senior Iranian lawmaker said on Tuesday.

Abolfazl Amouei, a member of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, made the remarks while speaking to IRNA.

Talking about the recent visit of Director General of the IAEA Rafael Grossi to Tehran, which led to issuing a joint statement, Amouei said that the visit took place within the framework of technical cooperation between Iran and the IAEA.

And of course, the main mission of the IAEA should carry technical purposes because politicization would hurt the Agency’s status, the member of parliament noted.

According to Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Islamic Republic is allowed to do peaceful nuclear activities and the IAEA should have supervision over countries’ nuclear program, he added.

As he underlined, the IAEA chief introduced the initiative that although Iran limits inspectors’ access to the cameras installed at the Iranian nuclear sites, it preserves what is in the memory cards in order to let the IAEA have access to them after the agreement between Iran and the 4+1.

The lawmaker further said Iran-IAEA cooperation is at a good level.

About Iran’s approach towards the United States, Amouei said that Washington is the one who illegitimately left the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

As he added, Vienna talks were followed up to make the US be faithful to its commitments in order to return to the deal and be a member of it again.

As long as the US has not lifted the sanctions, Iran will not agree to let it join the deal, he said.

He referred to US' insistence on sanctions as the main obstacle to Vienna talks.

Talks between Iran and 4+1 started as of April 2 while United States is indirectly attending the talks.

Once, Iran's top nuclear negotiator Abbas Araghchi had said that much legal, technical, and political discussion is necessary and that the talks will continue whenever needed.
