The Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) imported the consignments by 17 flights into the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Karim Hemmati, president of IRCS, said that the society has imported the fifteenth shipment and it will make more efforts to double the importation of COVID-19 vaccines in the next Iranian calendar month (August 23 to September 22).
The import of vaccine from China is being carried out as in the past by the IRCS, he said, adding that the most recent shipment will be transferred to the Ministry of Health and Medical Education.
Pointing to President Ebrahim Raisi's communication with his Chinese counterpart to insist on more vaccine exports to Iran, Hemmati stated that thanks to the Supreme Leader and President's emphasis, the IRCS will increase the import of vaccines to 5 million doses per week in Shahrivar (August 23 to September 22); so, the importation of 20 million doses of corona vaccine in the month will reach the total number of imports to nearly 40 million doses.
China has donated 1,550,000 doses of vaccine to Iran so far, Assistant Foreign Minister and Director General of Asia-Pacific Department Reza Zabib said on Tuesday.
