According to an IRNA correspondent from Moscow on Monday, the Russian Federal Maritime and Maritime Organization announced that the Iranian cargo ship called "Paya" which bound for the port of Astrakhan sank in the Volga-Caspian Canal, 155 km from its destination.
The ship was reportedly damaged and no fuel leakage happened.
The accident did not affect traffic in the canal.
Russian media reported that "Paya" ship had departed from the port of Amir Abad.
The ship had no load of cargo at the time of accident and all its crew are safe.
Necessary measures are underway to restore the ship from the mud.
