The Iranian Kurdish people hope that the 44th session of the World Heritage Committee in China will accept inclusion of Uraman in the world hertage sites of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
During a trip to Kurdistan on July 5-6, Iran's Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Ali Asghar Mounesan vowed that his ministry will spares no effort to pave the ground for international registration of the ancient region.
Mounesan noted that he will take part in meetings of the World Heritage Committee on late July and follow up the inclusion of Uraman as well as the North–South Transnational Corridor in the World Heritage List.
There are thousands of precious historical monuments in Iran, which are waiting to be inscribed on the List, but Uraman will be prioritized in this respect, he said, adding that the international recognition will help introduce capacities of Kurdistan province to the world public.
Pouya Talebnia, chairman of Uraman Cultural Landscape website, told IRNA that archaeological documents prove that the history of Uraman dates back to Middle Paleolithic or 40,000 BC.
According to the expert, historical monuments left behind from caveman era to sedentary lifestyle, including stone tools, pottery, historical castles and handmade products show the region enjoys cultural and historical antiquity.
The landscape and lifestyle of Uraman region, including eye-catching villages, old traditions, music, clothing and nomads are among attractions, which can be interesting for Iranian and foreign tourists to visit the ancient area.
The 44th meeting of the World Heritage Committee of the UNESCO is going to be held in Fuzhou, a city in south China, on July 16-31 virtually because of the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
