New Delhi, IRNA – India has accepted Iran’s invitation to dispatch an official representative to take part in swearing-in ceremony of president-elect Ebrahim Raisi.

Raisi, who won 61.95 percent of votes in Iran’s presidential election on June 18, will be sworn in as president in parliament on August 5.

India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar visited Tehran and held talks with president-elect Raisi, where his country was invited to participate in the ceremony.

India Today TV channel reported on his website that the invitation was mentioned during the meeting, and also wrote that New Delhi has not yet decided to send which Indian official to the ceremony.

Jaishankar is the first foreign official, who held talks with the Iranian president-elect. The Indian official handed over a personal message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Ebrahim Raisi.

The Indian FM wrote on his Twitter account: “Thank President-elect Ebrahim Raisi for his gracious welcome. Handed over a personal message from PM @narendramodi. Appreciate his warm sentiments for India. Deeply value his strong commitment to strengthen our bilateral ties and expand cooperation on regional and global issues.”

According to Indian sources, Modi called on Raisi to visit India after the end of COVID-19 pandemic.
