rahim Khaleghi, the chairman of the Organ Procurement and Transplant Center at the Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, said on Sunday that the organ transplant of the brain-dead woman was the 1065th surgery of this kind at Montasarieh Hospital.
The transplant of Oghoul Vatandoust's organs, 73, was conducted after her family accepted to donate her organs to save other patients’ lives.
Her liver was transplanted to a 67-year-old man from Mashad, which gave him a second chance to live a normal life.
Her corneas have been donated to the eye bank of the Mashhad University of Medical Sciences and parts of her skin were sent to the burn unit of Imam Reza Hospital in Mashhad.
The Organ Procurement and Transplant Center at the Mashhad University of Medical Sciences started work in 2001.
