In a Monday ceremony to mark joining of Dena destroyer and Shahin minesweeper the Iranian navy, Mousavi said that Iran’s naval vessels are capable of sailing 14,000 kilometers away from the country’s waters without docking in other countries’ ports.
Dena destroyer and Shahin minesweeper joined the Iranian naval fleet under the command of President Hassan Rouhani. The ceremony was held in the presence of the commander-in-chief of the army, minister of defense, head of the ideological and political organization of the Army and commander of the Navy of the Islamic Republic in Bandar Abbas, capital of Hormozgan province, southern Iran.
Another Iranian destroyer and support vessel passed Persian Gulf, Indian Ocean, Red Sea and they are now sailing towards northern Atlantic Ocean.
The domestically manufactured destroyer Sahand and the intelligence-gathering vessel Makran have been dispatched for the mission.
The commander-in-chief of the army went on to say that no obstacle or challenge could hinder the mission.
Elsewhere in his speech, Mousavi pointed to the importance of massive turnout in presidential elections in Iran, which is going to be held on Friday June 18.
