Baku, June 9, IRNA – Iran’s Minister of Roads and urban Development Mohammad Eslami arrived in Azerbaijan Republic’s capital city of Baku atop a delegation on Tuesday evening. 

Upon arrival in Baku the Iranian minister in a meeting with the press referred to his visit of the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic during his visit of the Azerbaijan Republic and said that the objective of our visit of Nakhichevan was visiting the transportation infrastructure of that republic aimed at development of the transportation and goods’ transiting.

Meanwhile, the objective of this visit is pursuing the proposals made by the Iranian foreign minister in his recent visit with the president of Azerbaijan, including the corridor in question, and the extent of Azerbaijan Republic’s pursuing of the matter, as a part of that corridor passes through the Iranian soil, and therefore, we visited the 80-kilometer road along the Aras River along with the Azerbaijani delegation.

Eslami added that the significant point is that the existing infrastructures on this path has the potential of joining Nakhichevan to the other parts of Azerbaijan Republic, and revival of the Tabriz-Nakhichevan railway and extending it to Tbilisi, and also the possibility of providing a railway from Nakhichevan to Kars in Turkey.

Iran’s minister of roads and urban development also pointed out that those are considered the West-East and North-South corridors, and are of great importance for Iran, as in order to develop our transactions they can play an effective role.

Along with these agreements we arrived in Baku today and we will have meetings and negotiations with Azerbaijan Republic officials here, he added.
