Tehran, June 6, IRNA - An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale shook Saleh-Abad, Mehran County, Ilam Province, southern Iran on Sunday.

According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the earthquake occurred at 09:24 hours local time and at the depth of 9 km underground.

The epicenter of the quake was located at 45.98 degrees longitude and 33.439 degrees latitude.

No report has so far been released on the likely casualties or damage to the property. But the quake was big enough to be felt in the neighboring counties, as well.

Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to near-daily earthquakes.
