Sanandaj, May 22, IRNA – When a historical cemetery dating back to 4,000 years ago was unearthed in west of Iran, it led to identifying ethnics, races and types of burial at Bronze Age- lasted from 3300 to 1200 BC.

Archeological site of Mokrian, the location of the cemetery and all stuff in the graves, is in Saqqez, a city in center of western Iranian province of Kordestan.  

Such a site could once again show antiquity and history of the city.

Saqqez is the oldest city of Kordestan and can be named as  symbol of oldness and civilization.

Discovery of several archeological sites and works here proves that Saqqez has been a place of living for many ethnic groups and races.

Now, finding of Mokrian cemetery lets all go back to 4,000 years ago to know about people at that age.

This is the first time that such a cemetery with separate graves, big stones on top of the graves and stuff at the graves is found here.  

From the outset of the dig, people in Saqqez could visit the site and see the process of excavation.

Salah Nasrollahi, head of handicrafts and tourism organization of Saqqez, has told IRNA that the historical cemetery was found accidentally two years ago.

And, excavation started in March 2021, the official added.

As he noted, all stuff founded during excavation has been delivered to cultural heritage, handicrafts and tourism organization of the province.

After digging Saqqez archeological site, 14 graves, decorative features and clays have been discovered.

Saqqez with population of 226,000 is located 190 km of north of Sanandaj, capital city of Kordestan.
