During his stay in Tehran, Muhriddin held talks with top Iranian officials including President Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
Iran-Tajikistan cooperation became weak four years ago after years of cordial ties; however, their cultural and historical relations were deep enough not to be damaged.
Based on reports, Muhriddin has asked for cooperation in Iran's southeastern Chabahar Port as a great trade zone for international cooperation.
At his meeting with Muhriddin, the Iranian president said on Saturday (June 2) that Chabahar Port can be the best and safest route for transit of Tajik goods.
Experts believe that Iran's important strategic Chabahar Port can reduce expenses for transit for Tajikistan's commodities.
Iranian president's website quoted Rouhani as saying that Tehran has always been after stability, security and progress in Tajikistan.
President Rouhani also said Iran is ready to provide Tajikistan with engineering and technical services in order to cooperate on implementation of Tajik projects.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian president talked of the issue of the fight against terrorism, saying today, terrorists have pulled out of Iraq and Syria, but there is concern that the terrorist groups could start their activities from Central Asia and the Caucasus.
So that, Iran and Tajikistan can foster cooperation in combat against terrorism more than before, the president said.
In response, Muhriddin told Rouhani that his country is keen to develop relations with Iran, and expressed hope that the Iranian president would take part in the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit due to be held in the Tajik capital soon.
It was the early days of the 2019 that several Iranian and Tajik officials announced that their relations are getting warm.
During those days, former and new heads of the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of Tajikistan announced at a press conference that Dushanbe-Tehran ties will develop and new ambassadors will be introduced to start mission in the two countries' embassies.
The heads of the Tajik center assured that Dushanbe-Tehran relations will be improved.
Meanwhile, they said Tajikistan expects Iran to spearhead a move for the betterment of bilateral ties.
Tajikistan believes that it has made due efforts to enhance bilateral ties with Iran, and now is Iran's turn to take serious step in line with improving relations.
Following the Tajik officials' remarks about resumption of relations with Iran, the country's President Emomali Rahmon appointed Nizomiddin Zohidi as Tajik Ambassador to Iran.
And, Mohammad Taqi Saberi, Iran's Ambassador to Dushanbe started his mission in Tajikistan.
About his appointment, Saberi told IRNA that he follows policy of promoting Tehran-Dushanbe ties as the main aim of his mission.
As Saberi said, Iran has been the first country that opened its embassy in Tajikistan, and Tehran was among the first which recognized Tajikistan as an independent country in 1991.
Saberi believes that cultural and historical commonalities and the identical language the two countries have will help both nations develop ties in all areas.
History shows that Iran and Tajikistan have had growing relations since Tajikistan's 1991 independence.
During the 1992-97 turmoil in Tajikistan, Iran took step towards solving the problem and even hosted several rounds of peace talks for Tajiks.
Iran's effective presence in reconstruction of Tajikistan particularly in the economic areas made the two sides experience deeper relations.
Construction of Sangtuda power plant building and independence (istiqlol) tunnel in Tajikistan are among Iran's investment moves in the country which share common culture and language with Iran.
