In its report of the interview with Mohamed al-Halbousi during his trip to Washington, ‘Asharq Al-Awsat’ claimed that al-Halbousi said the US forces presence is necessary in Iraq to prevent Iran’s penetration and all Iraqi parliamentary groups agree with it.
Shaker Hamid accused ‘Asharq Al-Awsat’ of distorting a detailed interview which underlined Iraqi sovereignty and independence.
Hamid stressed that al-Halbousi’s stances are clear and available to follow up through the statements released by his office.
Earlier, Iraqi Parliament Speaker stressed on the necessity of seeking the interests of the two nations of Iran and Iraq and cooperation in the economic field and other areas, emphasizing that Baghdad is supporting Iran against sanctions.
Meanwhile earlier, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Mohammed al-Halbousi in a meeting in Baghdad explored avenues for deepening of mutual cooperation.
