Moscow, Dec 4, IRNA -- Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of Russia Ilyas Umakhanov on Monday described Tehran as a strategic and main partner of Moscow, saying that his country is determined to broaden cooperation with Iran.

In a meeting with Iran Supreme Leader's Representative in Hajj and Pilgrimage Affairs Hojjatoleslam Ali Qazi-Askar, he stressed the need for promoting mutual cooperation, saying that contacts between the two countries will improve not only in the field of fighting terrorism and extremism, but also within the framework of international organizations.

All the problems facing Iran and Russia will be solved only thorough close cooperation between them and consultations at higher levels, he said.

Umakhanov further noted that close stances of Moscow and Tehran will have positive impact on the settlement of major global implications.

“We attach great respect to Iran and its culture,” he went on to say.

Qazi Askar, for his part, appreciated the Russian government and people for fighting terrorism and extremism, saying that involvement of Moscow in campaigning terrorists in the Middle East is of high significance for the humanity.

Followers of all religions in the region are exposed to danger, he said, appreciating President Vladimir Putin for his initiative and undertaking military operation in the Middle East.

Current high-level Tehran-Moscow ties will be increased, as Iran is keen on collaboration with Russia in all arenas, he said.
