Tehran, Sep 30, IRNA – Iran banned fuel products consignment heading to or coming from the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, according to a circular sent to shipping companies.

Due to the recent developments in the region, and under the order by the General Office of Border Affairs and Passive Defense, the international shipping companies and the drivers are banned from loading and shipping fuel products from or to the Iraqi Kurdistan Region until further notice, the circular by Iran Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization read.

The organization has announced the order to all the related companies since Wednesday, September 27.

Despite opposition of Iraq's federal government, international organizations and states of the region, the Iraqi Kurdistan local government held a referendum on September 25 in the northern parts of the country, including the disputed regions, such as Kirkuk.

Efforts are underway both from inside and outside Iraq to resolve the existing problem in Iraq.

Iran and major European countries strongly opposed the decision to hold the referendum, which they described as destabilizing at a time when all sides are still fighting against Daesh terrorists.
