New York, March 31, IRNA – Khayyam statue, made by famed sculptor Hossein Fakhimi was unveiled in Oklahoma University, US.

The statue was located in front of Hester Hall a place for International Studies.

Efforts of Director of International Society for Iranian Culture Mehdi Faridzadeh made the event possible.

Faridzadeh, who is also head of Board of Trustees of New York Islamic Center, in an address to the unveiling ceremony praised works of Master Fakhimi saying that the Khayyam statue had been prepared, transferred to the US and donated to the US Cultural Society by the support of Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Jannati and the aid of Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.

Omar Khayyam is the 11th century Persian poet, astronomer, philosopher, scientist, and mathematician.

President of Oklahoma University (OU) David Boren appreciated the work and said that Iran's culture and civilization is inspiring for the entire world.

He expressed hope that more American students try to learn Persian language and literature.

Boren also appreciated Farzaneh Brothers, Iranian residing in the US, for their financial supports for the event as well as development for Persian Language and Iranology studies in OU.
