Tehran, May 12, IRNA – Iranian lawmaker Ali Kaeedi on Monday expressed hope that peace and security would be restored in Ukraine through dialogue between the warring parties.

Kaeedi, co-chairman of Iran-Ukraine Parliamentary Friendship Group, made the remarks in a meeting with outgoing Ukrainian ambassador to Iran Oleksandr Samarskiy.

Kaeedi said that resolution of the crisis in Ukraine relies on respect for popular demands of the nation.

The Iranian lawmaker hailed parliamentary cooperation between the two countries in the past several years and said such cooperation would help cement bilateral ties.

He called for making use of existing capacities to further promote economic cooperation.

He noted that Iran-Ukraine Parliamentary Friendship Group will spare no efforts in this regard.

The Ukrainian ambassador, for his part, briefed the Iranian lawmaker on the latest developments in his country and voiced Kiev's readiness to broaden ties with Tehran.

Samarskiy criticized Moscow's approach towards Ukraine and said that Russian policies have caused the current crisis in Ukraine.

Mansour Haqiqatpour, another Iranian MP who was present at the meeting, said Iran supports any peace efforts to restore stability in Ukraine.

Haqiqatpour, the deputy head of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission said that bright prospects are visible for bilateral cooperation between Tehran and Kiev in different fields.
