Tehran, IRNA – A senior official at Iran’s Department of Environment has announced a 35% increase in wildlife population in different areas of the country over the past two years.
The Persian fallow deer’s natural habitat is the dense forests of the Zagros region and areas in southwestern Iranian province of Khuzestan. The unique animal species has been living across the Mesopotamia region for centuries. It was thought to be extinct in Iran until 1951 when the animal was seen in Dez and Karkheh National Parks in Khuzestan.
