    Last sacrifice by a nurse

The vital organs of the 47-year-old nurse "Mehdi Astvar" from the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad were donated to the patients in need after he died from cardiac arrest. Authorities confirmed he had also suffered from brain death while his family gave their consent for donation. Medical staff and officials at Farabi Hospital bid their farewell to the former colleague. The organ donation was the 1,422nd such donation from a brain-dead donor at Mashhad's Muntasarieh hospital as it gave life to a number of patients. Since the beginning of this year, some 94 kidney transplants, 72 liver transplants, 208 cornea transplants, and 105 skin transplants have been performed at hospitals controlled by Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, bringing about 500 patients back to life.
