Flamingoes in Iran’s Miankaleh
Tens of thousands of flamingoes migrate from territories to the north of Iran to Miyankaleh, an internationally-protected wetland located along the Caspian sea’s eastern coast in northern Iran, in late winter and stay there until early spring.

Migratory swans and flamingos are seen in a series of photos taken from Sorkhroud Wetland in the northern Iranian province of Mazandaran on January 21, 2023. A large number of swans fly to the wetland each year. The number of migratory swans amounts to over 2,000 this year. The migration of some 50 flamingos has surprised the visitors.
