U.S. behavior will determine the course of negotiations: President
President Masoud Pezeshkian addresses key issues during a cabinet session on March 30, 2025.

President Masoud Pezeshkian says Iran has told the United States that it is open to indirect negotiations.

Tehran, IRNA – President Masoud Pezeshkian says Iran has told the United States that it is open to indirect negotiations, adding that the course of talks will depend on Washington’s behavior.

Pezeshkian said on Sunday that Iran had written in its response to a letter by U.S. President Donald Trump that the Islamic Republic has never shied away from negotiations, and it is only the broken promises of the other side that have damaged trust, which must be restored.

“While the response rules out the possibility of direct talks between the two sides, it says that the door remains open to indirect negotiations,” the president said during a cabinet meeting.

“It’s the behavior of the Americans that will determine the continuation of the negotiation process,” he said.

Trump sent a letter to Iran via an emissary from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on March 12. While the content of the letter has not been made public, Trump has said he has asked Iran to open negotiations to make a new deal and warned of possible military action if Tehran refuses.

The U.S. president pulled the United States from a previous agreement with Iran in 2018.

Iranian officials have since ruled out direct negotiations with the United States as long as Washington continues to engage in “maximum pressure” and threats against Iran.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Pezeshkian said the catastrophic crimes of the Israeli regime against Palestinians must be stopped, adding that dropping bombs on innocent civilians despite a ceasefire deal is unacceptable.

He called on Muslim nations to stand united against Israel.
