Over two dozen more Palestinians, including a Hamas official and several women and children have been killed in new Israeli strikes on the besieged Gaza Strip.
Gaza’s Health Ministry says the fatalities overnight Sunday pushed the overall death toll to more than 50,000 since Israel launched its genocidal war on the coastal Palestinian territory back in October 2023.
Hamas has described the latest offensive a “new and dangerous breach” of the ceasefire and reiterated its commitment to the truce agreement it signed with Israel in January.
The regime ordered its forces to renew their attack on Gaza following the end of the first phase of the ceasefire deal last week with a wave of strikes that killed hundreds of civilians.
Israel has continued striking the Strip and has launched ground incursions into northern Gaza while issuing the evacuation order for residents in the southern city of Rafah.
The move followed the cabinet meeting that approved a proposal to displace Palestinians in line with U.S. President Donald Trump’s outrageous plan to depopulate Gaza.
Palestinians have repeatedly said that they would not leave their homeland, and rights groups have warned that Trump’s expulsion plan could amount to the violation of international law.
Almost all of Gaza’s population of more than 2 million has already been displaced from their homes amid Israel’s relentless bombing and shelling campaign.
Negotiations to extend the ceasefire have been moribund nearly from the day it went into effect on January 19 amid Israel’s threats and non-adherence to the deal.
Under the terms of the second phase, Israel would have had to withdraw entirely from Gaza and commit to a permanent end of the war in exchange for the release of all Israeli prisoners.
