U.S.-European decision to take Al-Aqsa TV off the air aims to silence Palestinians: Hamas

The Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, says the decision by the United States and Europe to stop Al-Aqsa TV from broadcasting on international satellites is a deliberate effort to stifle the voice of the Palestinian nation.

The Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, has condemned a joint decision by the United States and Europe to take its television channel, Al-Aqsa TV, off the air, saying the move is a deliberate attempt to stifle the voice of the Palestinian nation.

Al-Aqsa TV, run by Hamas in Gaza since 2006, has announced that it has been forced to stop broadcasting on all international satellite channels following the decision.

“The cruel decision is a direct attack on independent Palestinian media outlets that reflect the suffering of the oppressed Palestinian nation and the crimes committed by the occupiers to people across the world,” Hamas said in a statement on Friday, carried by Palestinian Sama news agency.

The movement further said that the joint American-European measure is part of a broader effort to silence platforms that expose the “true nature of the organized terrorism of the Zionists.”

The ban on Al-Aqsa TV is also part of a targeted policy aimed at censoring the Palestinian narrative and constant attacks on journalists covering developments in Gaza, said Hamas.

Another Palestinian resistance movement, the Islamic Jihad, also condemned the ban on Al-Aqsa TV, saying it violates the legitimate right of the Palestinian people to make their voices heard in the world.

“The move is regarded as a new blockade aimed at silencing the voice of the Palestinian nation and preventing their suffering from being heard by the people across the world,” the Islamic Jihad said in a statement.

The ban is another attempt to cover up Israeli crimes and the regime’s genocide against Palestinians, the movement further said.

The ban on Al-Aqsa TV follows similar measures by the Israeli regime since it invaded Gaza on October 7, 2023, which include shutting down media outlets and targeting journalists.

On Friday, Palestinian journalist Alaa Hashim succumbed to injuries she sustained in an Israeli attack in Gaza City, according to Sama news agency. It did not say when the attack took place.

At least 206 Palestinian journalists have been killed in Israel’s war on Gaza since October 2023, according to Al Jazeera TV network.
