The secretary general of the Iranian Drug Control Headquarters criticizes Western states for politicizing all issues, highlighting Tehran’s moves in combating drug trafficking.

Tehran, IRNA — Hossein Zolfaqari, the secretary-general of the Iranian Drug Control Headquarters, says that Western countries politicize all issues, whereas Iran’s efforts to fight against drug trafficking are sincere.

Zolfaqari made the remarks in a meeting with the Netherland's Permanent Ambassador to Vienna, Peter Potman, on Tuesday, on the sidelines of the 68th annual session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs held in Vienna, Austria, from March 10 to 14.

The official emphasized that Iran's commitment in combating drug trafficking have been sincere, contrary to false narratives about the Islamic Republic.

Zolfaqari also highlighted Afghanistan's underground heroin and methamphetamine production as a grave threat requiring urgent action.

In response, Potman expressed his appreciation for Iran hosting millions of Afghan nationals and shared the Netherlands' successful experiences in harm reduction in heroin addiction.
