---  IRCS to become BRICS Health Working Group chair

The Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) will become the chair of the health working group of the BRICS group of emerging economies.
IRCS Chief Pir-Hossein Kolivand in a meeting with Co-Chair of BRICS Civil Forum Alena Peryshkina introduced the IRCS as the main option for the chair of the health working group of BRICS.

--  Iranians make first umrah pilgrimage after nine-year hiatus

Iranians travelled on Monday to Saudi Arabia for umrah pilgrimage after a nine-year hiatus following a last year diplomatic rapprochement between the two countries. The first group of pilgrims departed Iran for Saudi Arabia through the Shahid Hashemi Nejad Airport in northeastern city of Mashhad.
They are the first Iranians to make the pilgrimage since Tehran and Riyadh agreed in a China-brokered deal last year to restore ties and reopen their respective embassies after more than seven years. Saudi Arabia and Iran severed ties in 2016 after Saudi diplomatic missions in Iran were stormed during protests over Riyadh’s execution of Shia cleric Nimr al-Nimr.

--  Kavianinejad, Mohmadi through as Iran secures full GR squad for Paris

Iran became the first country to complete a full set of six Greco-Roman wrestling quotas for the Paris Olympics.
Amin Kavianinejad and Alireza Mohmadi secured the remaining two slots for the country thanks to last-four victories in their respective weight classes in the Asian qualification event in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
In a repeat of a semifinal clash in last October’s Asian Games, Kavianinejad – a silver winner in Hangzhou – came from behind to defeat China’s Rui Liu 6-5 in a thrilling 77kg contest.

--  Petroleum Ministry, AEOI Sign MoU to Enhance Technology Cooperation

Iran’s Petroleum  Ministry and Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to boost cooperation in a range of different issues including technology.
Under the terms of the deal, the two sides will cooperate on a variety of issues including realization of general policies of the Islamic establishment, going ahead with the resistance economy policies, meeting mutual needs and boosting technological capabilities of the country.

--  Christie’s to Auction Copy of Nizami’s Khamsa, Kashan Bowl

LONDON (Dispatches) -- Christie’s Art of the Islamic and Indian Worlds spring sale will see 261 lots —including paintings, ceramics, metal work, works on paper, textiles, rugs and carpets — go under the hammer at a live auction at their London headquarters on April 25.
These included lot 45, an exquisite miniature octagonal Qur’an, dated AH 985/1577-8 AD, which was made in Madinah. the Qur’an has an estimate of $13,000-19,000.

--  Iranian Researcher Builds Solar Water Desalination System

An Iranian researcher at Sharif University of Technology succeeded in designing and building a new solar water desalination system by using the humidification-dehumidification method which is equipped with a heat pump.
“Desalination by humidification-dehumidification method is one of the most practical small-scale desalination processes. This method has outstanding advantages like low operating temperature, the ability to use solar energy, simple structure and no need for skilled personnel,” said Muhammad Behshad Shafiyee, a professor of Sharif University of Technology and a PhD graduate in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan.

--  Iran defeat Kuwait at 2024 AFC Futsal Asian Cup

 Iran defeated Kuwait 4-0 in Group D of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup Thailand 2024 on Monday. Kuwaiti players scored two own goals and Saeid Ahmad Abbasi also scored twice. Team Melli had previously defeated Afghanistan 3-1 and Bahrain 5-3.

Iran will play Kyrgyzstan on Wednesday in the quarterfinals. The competition is underway in Bangkok, Thailand, from April 17 to 28.

--  Fajr Architecture Festival set to debut in 2025

The first edition of the Fajr Architecture Festival is scheduled to take place during the upcoming Ten-Day Dawn celebrations from February 1 to 10, 2025, which marks the 46th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution. 

The Fajr Architecture Festival will be included in the series of festivals organized by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, culture minister Mohammad-Mehdi Esmaeili announced on Sunday.  The festival will be organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport and Urban Development, as well as the Supreme Council of Urban Planning, the minister said.

--  Iran free zones to draw 3.5m inbound tourists by year’s end

In an attempt to attract both domestic and inbound tourists, Iran’s free zones have set sights on witnessing the arrival of more than three million inbound explorers along with millions of domestic travelers before this Persian year is out.

In a recent interview with Mehr, an official in charge of Tourism and Cultural Heritage of free zones revealed that 2,893,000 foreign tourists stopped in the Free zones across the country throughout the course of last Persian year [Mar. 2023-Mar. 2024].
