** IRAN DAILY

--  Iran, Azerbaijan, Russia power grids to be connected

An electricity connection project between Iran, Russia and Azerbaijan is at the final stage and will be implemented in the near future, an official at Iran’s Ministry of Energy said.
The implementation of this electricity project will provide the possibility to import electricity when the country needs it and export the surplus electricity to these countries, the head of the international office of the ministry stated.

-- Iranian woman wins BIWFF in Lebanon

Iranian director-cum-actress Sahra Assadollahi won the Best Actress Award at the Beirut International Women Film Festival for her role in the short film ‘Spasm.’
The closing ceremony of the festival was held in Lebanon’s capital on April 19, IRNA wrote. Assadollahi has previously been nominated for best actress at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival.

--  Iranian play to be staged in Russia

Iran’s international theatrical project ‘Quiet,’ directed by Esmaeel Shafiee will be performed at the 28th International Theater Festival “Russkaya Klassika” in Moscow, from May 21 to 20.
The project, featuring actors from Iran, Azerbaijan, and Russia, involves two Iranian actors, one Azerbaijani actor, and six actors from the hosting country, ILNA wrote. ‘Quiet’ debuted at last year’s Harlequin festival in eastern Russia, featuring actors from Omsk and Irkutsk, and this time, actors from Moscow are part of the cast.

--  Venezuela Calls for Economic Independence Amid U.S. Blockade

The unilateral coercive measures imposed on Venezuela by the United States have led Venezuelans to be determined and to unite in the construction of a new model of a diversified economy, said Venezuelan Vice-President Delcy Rodriguez.
“We have achieved political independence, but we must go further, we must move towards economic independence,” Rodriguez said in Caracas on the occasion of the 214th anniversary of the proclamation of independence in 1810.
“And if anything has put this crude and immoral economic blockade against Venezuela to the test, it is the determination of this people for economic independence,” she said.

--  Iran, Qatar to Ink New Contracts in Energy Sector: Official

Iran and Qatar plan to clinch new contracts in the near future to boost bilateral ties in the energy sector, an official at Iran’s Ministry of Energy said.
Connecting the electricity grids of Iran and Qatar is one of the main measures taken for the development of the electricity cooperation, the director of Iran’s Ministry of Energy for international affairs said. Effective steps have been taken for connecting the electricity grids of the two countries in recent years, Mojtaba Akbari emphasized. 

--  IRICA: Iran Imports $8.4bn of Auto, Motorcycle Parts

Head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Mohammad Rezvanifar has announced that the country imported $8.4 billion of automotive and motorcycle parts in the previous Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2023, to March 19, 2024), showing a 32.69 percent hike compared to a year earlier.
The official said that Iran exported $141.218 million worth of auto and motorcycle components and parts in this period, showing a 24.35 percent growth compared to the previous year, IRNA reported.

--  Iran became the first team from Group D to secure a spot in the AFC Futsal Asian Cup Thailand 2024 quarterfinals following a thrilling 5-3 win over Bahrain on Saturday.

Iran will face Kuwait on Monday, while Bahrain take on Afghanistan. Mirza was on target for Bahrain but Alireza Rafieipour equalized the match.  

Bahrain struck again with two minutes left on the clock when Mohamed Alsandi sent a delightful through ball for Saleh Sanjar to strike home from close range, the-afc.com reported.

--  Iran oil exports hit six-year high: report

Iran is exporting more oil than at any time for the past six years, giving its economy a $35bn-a-year boost, the Financial Times reported. Tehran sold an average of 1.56 million barrels a day during the first three months of the year, almost all of it to China and its highest level since the third quarter of 2018, according to data company Vortexa.

Iran’s success in exporting its crude underscores the difficulties facing the US and the EU as they seek to build up pressure on Tehran.

--  WFP releases March report on Iran

The World Food Program (WFP) has released a report, expounding on activities in Iran over the month of March. In March, WFP food assistance reached 33,529 beneficiaries, which included Afghan and Iraqi refugees as well as Iranian teachers.

Of those assisted, 28 percent were women, 29 percent were men, 21 percent were girls, and 22 percent were boys.
