West’s silence has made Israeli regime more insolent: Iran envoy

London, IRNA – Iran’s Ambassador to Italy Mohammad-Reza Sabouri has censured the over-seven-decade-long Israeli brutal crimes against Palestinians and its anti-Iran terrorist measures, reiterating that the silence kept by the West on such crimes has made the regime more impertinent.

It is necessary for the global community to take a practical measure to settle regional peace and stability, Sabouri told Italian TV channel Rai1, IRNA reported on Wednesday.

During the interview, Sabouri said the Israeli regime has taken provocative actions including sabotage and assassination of Iran’s nuclear scientists and military advisors in Syria during the recent years.

He went on to stress that the Islamic Republic has shown the maximum level of restraint on the Zionist regime, but the time had come for it to pay for its behavior.

On April 13, Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced firing dozens of drones and missiles toward the positions of the Zionist regime in the occupied Palestine. The firing took place in response to the Israeli attack against Iran’s consulate in Damascus, Syria, a few days earlier.

Pointing to the IRGC retaliatory act, the ambassador said such a punitive response told others that if the aggressor had been punished in Syria and the global community had not kept silence on violation of right of diplomatic immunity, the process of developments might have taken another path.

The ambassador also added that Iran’s response was part of the country's deterrent and warning policy within the framework of the Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations.

Unfortunately, some countries, including the United States, have closed their eyes on the truth, Sabouri stressed.

Asked about Iran’s response to the possible Israeli attack, the ambassador said it is ridiculous that such a regime kills Palestinians and takes their lands, and then accuses the Islamic Republic and the freedom-seeking groups in the region of terrorism.

If Tel Aviv repeats its terrorist actions against Iranian interests and security, it will face Tehran’s strong, fast and broad response, he added to his words.

In a related development, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic to the United Nations (UN) Amir-Saeid Iravani said Iran’s second retaliation against Israeli attack will be “most decisive.”
