Iran FM urges WHO to help Gaza with medical aid

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s foreign minister has urged international organizations, especially the World Health Organization (WHO) to play their role by sending humanitarian aid and medicine to the war-ravaged Gaza Strip.

According to IRNA, Hossein Amirabdollahian issued the call while meeting with WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, Hanan Balkhy.

The crimes and genocide of the Zionist regime in Gaza are not limited to bombing and many Palestinians, especially children and women, are dying due to hunger, disease and lack of medicine, he said.

The top Iranian diplomat also thanked Balkhy for her special attention and efforts in the direction of developing cooperation among major regional countries, especially Iran, with the World Health Organization.

Balkhy, while expressing her satisfaction during her trip to Iran, pointed out and emphasized the efforts of the WHO in cooperation with international partners to send humanitarian aid to Gaza but said these efforts have not been fruitful so far.

She expressed hope that with the cessation of Israeli violence and war in Gaza, the opportunity to provide humanitarian aid and healthcare will be possible.

In the meeting, Balkhy explained the WHO plans in the field of healthcare, combating infectious diseases, increasing public awareness and education around the world, especially in the West Asia and East Mediterranean region.

She also praised the progress and efficiency of the health system in the Islamic Republic, especially during the spread of Covid-19 and called for the use of Iranian experiences and achievements in promoting health at the regional level.
