Amirabdollahian made the remarks in a phone conversation with his German counterpart, Annalena Baerbock, according to IRNA’s foreign policy correspondent.
When the Israeli regime completely violates the immunity of individuals and diplomatic places by violating international law and the Vienna Conventions, legitimate defense with the aim of punishing the aggressor is a necessity, he told Baerbock.
He referred to the Zionist regime's airstrike on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus, which led to the martyrdom of seven military advisors to Syria, but emphasized that his country’s foreign policy has always been based on avoiding tensions.
While referring to Iran’s expectation of Germany to explicitly condemn the attack, Amirabdollahian asked how Europe and the United States would have reacted if there was a similar missile attack on one of their diplomatic facilities in Ukraine.
For her part, the German foreign minister stated that diplomatic places enjoy complete international immunity but called on the Islamic Republic to exercise restraint.
The two top diplomats also discussed other developments in the West Asia region and bilateral relations, emphasizing the need to maintain the path of dialogue.
