Nicaragua demands ICJ order Germany to stop supporting Gaza genocide

Tehran, IRNA - Nicaragua has called on the United Nations top court to order Germany to stop supporting the Israeli regime's genocide of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Nicaragua presented its case before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Monday, demanding judges impose emergency measures to stop Germany from providing weapons and other military assistance to the Israeli regime.

The Nicaraguan legal team argued that Germany, by supporting Israel, is responsible for and complicit in the genocide in Gaza and is in violation of the Genocide Convention.

The lawyers said that the war against Gaza has brought huge profits to German arms manufacturers.

In his opening statement, the head of Nicaragua’s delegation said “serious breaches of international humanitarian law…including genocide, are taking place in Palestine” and are “being committed openly".

“The case before us involves momentous events affecting the lives and wellbeing of hundreds of thousands of people, and even the destruction of entire people,” said Carlos Jose Francisco Arguello Gomez, who is also Nicaragua's ambassador to the Netherlands.

More than 33,200 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, mostly women and Children, since the Israeli regime launched a full-blown invasion of the besieged territory on October 7.
