The Israeli media have cited an army statement confirming the death of one soldier in the city of Khan Yunis and the injury of 6 others, two of them critically elsewhere in Gaza.
According to the reports, two soldiers belonging to the 401 brigade were seriously injured in clashes with Palestinian fighters in the center of Gaza. Four other soldiers were injured as a result of a mortar explosion inside a tank carrying them in the south of Gaza City.
The military has so far confirmed some 255 deaths among its soldiers since the launch of a ground invasion of Gaza in late October.
The Zionist media have however pointed to the severe censorship of the Israeli army in announcing its casualty figures. They also revealed earlier that the number of wounded announced by the regime's army differs greatly from the statistics provided by the hospitals.
Palestinian groups and other mainstream media outlets also suspect the Israeli military figure, saying the regime is intentionally hiding the real number of casualties among its forces to avoid the Israeli public anger.
