Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq denounces Israeli raid on Iran consulate

Tehran, IRNA – President of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq Humam Hamoudi has denounced the Israeli regime’s aggression against the Iranian consulate in the Syrian capital, Damascus.

In a statement on Wednesday, Hamoudi said the attack was a brazen violation of international laws and conventions.

“This action shows the insane behavior of the Zionist regime, which has not been able to achieve its goals despite its terrible crimes in Gaza,” he said.

The Iraqi politician argued that Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu is trying to find a way out of the predicament he is in by widening the circle of war.

He added that the international community must take a deterrent position on par with the threat that the Zionist regime poses to world peace.

Israeli warplanes bombed the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria, on Monday, killing two senior Iranian commanders who were on an advisory mission in the Arab country as well as five of their accompanying officers.

Iran warned on Tuesday that the consequences of the regime’s reprehensible act can lead to the escalation in tensions and potentially spark more conflicts in the region.
