According to IRNA reporter, Head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus called for quick execution of the resolution in order to reach Palestinians in need of emergency medical help.
The resolution, that calls for an immediate ceasefire until the end of the holy month of Ramada, the unconditional release of prisoners and guaranteed humanitarian access to meet medical and other humanitarian needs in Gaza, was proposed by 10 non-permanent members of the Security Council and approved with 14 votes.
The US that had previously vetoed three ceasefire resolutions abstained from voting but only after the original draft omitted the word “permanent” with regard to the ceasefire.
Meanwhile, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte described the approval of the UN Security Council resolution on Gaza as an important stepforward.
Rutte wrote on his X social network that what is needed now is an end to the violence, the release of the hostages, the immediate delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, and a lasting solution.
The President of the European Council has also hailed the resolution and stressed the need to comply with it.
Charles Michel, in a message posted on his social media account expressed happiness over the UN Security Council's decision, which eh said clearly calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
Referring to last week's statement of the European Council regarding the immediate cessation of the war on Gaza, he clarified that it is now necessary to comply with this UN resolution.
Meanwhile, the President of Colombia warned the Israeli regime against not implementing the ceasefire resolution on Gaza.
Gustavo Petro has asked the international community to cut off diplomatic ties with Israel if it does not comply with the UN Security Council’s resolution establish ceasefire in the besieged Palestinian territory.
Finally, the ceasefire resolution was unanimously approved in the UN Council, I am the one who urges the world to cut off relations with Israel if its violated the ceasefire, Petro wrote on his social media X account.
Ever since its creation in May 1948, Israel has not followed any of the UN resolutions on Palestine and the occupied territories, whether passed by the General Assembly or the Security Council.
Palestinians have repeatedly paid with their lives, bodies, and land for Israeli impunity which is based on the unconditional backing provided by the US and its European allies.
