Visiting Syrian defense minister meets top Iranian general

Tehran, IRNA - Syria’s Defense Minister, Lieutenant General Ali Mahmoud Abbas, who is heading a high-level delegation to Tehran, has met with Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Bagheri.

General Abbas and General Bagheri, during their meeting, exchanged views on bilateral relations, including defense cooperation as well as other regional developments such as the ongoing Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, according to the IRNA reporter.

Apart from denouncing Israeli crimes in Gaza and the silence of some of the countries, the two top generals assessed Israeli strikes on occupied Palestine, Lebanon and Syria as a sign of the regime’s failure to achieve its illegitimate goals and emphasized the need of continuous consultations between Syria and Iran at different levels.

General Bagheri referred to the Operation Al-Aqsa Storm as a great epic by the oppressed Palestinians in Gaza in October and said it necessitates more exchange of views and high-level visits.

The resistance of the people of Gaza for nearly six months against the most intense and incessant attacks by the Zionist regime shows the strength and capability of the resistance, and the regime’s crimes have made its backers dishonorable as well, he underlined.

General Abbas and General Bagheri also assessed the progress in bilateral military relations and expressed their satisfaction in this regard.

Last year, there was a lot of progress in the relations between the two armed forces, and we carried out many things mutually, the Syrian defense minister said, adding that Damascus hopes the same this year in order to make progress in all matters.

After the Al-Aqsa Storm operation, the world has changed and therefore it necessitates more exchanges and the armed forces of Iran and Syria, as part of the axis of resistance, have deep ties with each other, he noted.
