Iran backs women’s rights, seeks more progress: VP

New York, IRNA – Iran’s Vice President for Women and Family Affairs Ensiyeh Khazali has underscored that the Islamic Republic is supporting the rights of women and the underprivileged people, adding that the country tries to improve their status.

On the sidelines of the 68th annual Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68), which is the UN's largest annual gathering on gender equality and women's empowerment, the Iranian VP said in an interview with Newsweek on Wednesday that women's rights situation in Iran is not perfect, but the issue is a priority for the Raisi administration and the whole Islamic establishment.

Khazali also stated that Tehran was committed to paving the way for supporting the efforts for better female representation and empowerment in the Islamic Republic, even providing women with the opportunity to run for president in Iran.

There are women advisers in different ministries in Iran, who are expected to actively contribute to the decision-making processes, the vice president added.

She mentioned that some 80 percent of all the facilities and banking loans provided to domestic businesses go to women-owned businesses.
